Workshop at St. George School: Understanding Addiction
Raising Awareness, Building Prevention, Strengthening Our Community
We recently held a workshop for the teachers and parents of St. George School on one of the most important topics affecting today’s youth — Addiction: its nature, causes, consequences, and prevention.
This session, led by our team of addiction specialists, aimed to deepen understanding, reduce stigma, and equip families with practical tools to support young people in making healthier choices.
Why this workshop matters:
Addiction can begin long before visible signs appear.
Educators and parents are the first line of support in recognizing risks.
Early awareness helps protect children from long-term harm.
Informed adults create safer, healthier environments for youth.
During the workshop, participants explored:
What addiction truly is — beyond stereotypes and misconceptions
Biological, psychological, and social factors that drive dependency
Early warning signs and behavioral changes to look for
The emotional and developmental impact of substance misuse on children
Strategies for open, supportive communication with teenagers
Effective prevention methods at home and at school
How to respond when a young person is struggling
Why raising awareness is essential:
It empowers families to recognize risks early
Reduces stigma and encourages open conversation
Helps adults create strong protective factors around children
Strengthens emotional resilience and healthy decision-making
Builds a community that supports prevention, not punishment
By bringing together teachers and parents, we create a unified, knowledgeable support system that protects young people and builds a healthier future.Together, awareness becomes prevention — and prevention becomes empowerment.
